10 Things To Know About Me

Outside of my “About Me” I don’t often share a ton of just straight facts about myself. So I thought it was time to do a little reveal. Let’s get a little more personal here. In no particular order, here are 10 things to know about me.

1. My Superpower

I have a superpower. No, not like the characters in the Marvel movies. My superpower is something different. I teach. That is, I am a special education teacher. You thought blogging was my full-time gig? Nope. My full-time career, the one that pays most of the bills, fills my days (pre-COVID19) and also leaves me exhausted on the daily is teaching. And I absolutely love it (most days). In my eyes, teachers are superheroes just out there doing our job to make the world a better place. So, that is my ultimate superpower!

2. Cooking

I can’t cook. No, I really can’t. No superpower in the kitchen. There is a solid reason why this blog is lifestyle-based and there are absolutely no sections on recipes or cooking of any such. Not only do I not like cooking, I am just plain bad at it. Cooking times, measurements, ingredients, grocery shopping, and the such all challenge me. Thankfully, I am a microwave pro, and eating out is my specialty. Chef Lauren, I am not!

3. Pet Parent

If you follow me on social, you may know this one. I am a proud (most of the time) doggy momma. My girl Mandy is a long-haired super stubborn but oh so cute, dachshund. She is equal parts girl’s best friend and biggest pain in the you know what. But really, I absolutely love animals and if I could have an entire house full of dogs, I would! Dog mom for life over here!

4. Shoe Obsessed

Another random fact of the 10 things you should know about me is that I am shoe obsessed! I love shoes. Wedges, heels, sandals, sneakers, stilettos, you name it and I love it! At last count, my closet boasts around 300 pairs (obnoxious, I know). But, shoes really are the best part of every outfit. And they don’t care if you ate pizza or salad for dinner unlike my jeans and pants do.

5. Gossip Girl

If you read this post, then you know I am a Gossip Girl fan! I jumped on that bandwagon years late but am still deeply obsessed with the show. From the fashion to the drama and social scenes of the Upper East Side, I was hooked. And the fun fact about this is that I chose the xoxo, Social Gal name in part because of the show. I had just come off a month longe binge of the show when I started the blog and needed a name. The Social Gal part came easily from my previous IG account and related hustles but I added the extra, “xoxo” as an ode to my favorite show! Any other major Gossip Girl fans out there? Are you a Blair or Serena?

6. A Brand

Currently, I am busting tail trying to build my brand. Which includes this here blog and my subsequent social media accounts (IG and Facebook). Though this blog is several months old now, I have dedicated a lot more time to it lately. I have also been taking social by storm and my end goal is to build my brand. Where that will take me, who knows but I am darn sure going to work hard to get there! I am also most excited about this new side hustle of mine and greatly look forward to opportunities that will come and all I will learn in the future.

7. Type “A”

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am type “A” like crazy. Over-planned, super structured, sometimes uptight, laser-focused, and precise, this is me! I contribute type “A-ness” for many of my accolades but also some of my character flaws. It is both a blessing and a curse at times depending on how you look at it. Yet, I choose to embrace it every single day and do my best to put it to good use. I am a girl with a plan, get out of my way!

8. Embarassing

Give the people what they want! I figured I better share at least one embarrassing fun fact. So here it goes. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 19 years old. What the what! It was a terrible combination of fear, my parents both sucking as driver’s ed teachers and not being motivated to really learn. I was the first of my friend group to turn 16 since I was a September baby and the pressure of that along with just flat out not being ready caused me to keep delaying it. It wasn’t until I was off to college and got my own car that it really kicked in. I got myself together and freakin’ learned to drive a car. And guess what, I am a darn good driver now. Oh, and I had driving shoes. Yep you read that right, I wore a special pair of shoes for driving for at least a solid 6 months when I first started. (Insert eye roll)

9. Ireland

Ireland is my most favorite place I’ve ever been to. Having been lucky enough to study abroad in this beautiful country, I fell in love. It’s been years now, but I still countdown until I can go back and experience it all over again. Its beauty is really a thing of wonder and the Irish people are hands-down, the best! I did gain 10 pounds on potatoes, bread, and Irish butter but it was worth every single lb.

10. Community

Community is a word and way of life that is beyond important to me. This is one of the biggest of the 10 things you should know about me. I have spent many years, hours, dollars, and amounts of time working in my community along with working to build community. Community is at the heart of much of what I do. It’s even what I am doing here with my blog and with my brand. I love my community. I love building and interacting with a community. Community is extremely important to me and I have a hard time seeing a day when it will not be just that. If you remember one thing about me from this list of 10, let it be my love for all things community, please.

That’s Me

So that is 10 things you should know about me. Some funny, embarrassing, silly, important, and random but that is me. I am all of these things and so much more. I am a blogger. A community builder. A type “A” doer. A teacher and doggy momma.

The beauty of me and of all of you is that we are and can be so many things. Who I am does not fit on a single line of text nor in a list of 10 things you should know about me. I am so much more than that and so are you. We are a collection of all that we are and I hope you learned a little bit more about me today! Thank you for that!

Since you now know how important community is to me, I would love for you to join my community here.

Additionally, I would love to get to know you more so drop a fun fact about yourself below or let me know if we have any fun facts in common!

Much love! xoxo
